BBetween 25 and 27 June 2024, Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya (UPC), SpaceSUITE’s Project Member, hosted the 1st SpaceSUITE training, entitled GNSS Data Processing: Theory & Practical Exercises in Barcelona, Spain.

The training gathered together a total of 20 professionals and university students from all over Europe, who wanted to upskill their knowledge on satellite positioning.

During the training, the basic concepts used in positioning by means of the GNSS were explained with the focus on techniques such as Standard and Precise Point Positioning (SPP, PPP), as well as the elements needed to understand how the system works and how to work with it.The processing algorithms needed to navigate using such techniques were provided already implemented through guided exercises in laboratory sessions.

The lecturers explained different terms involved in modelling the pseudoranges (relativistic effects, atmospheric troposphere/ ionosphere and instrumental delays, clock synchronism, etc.), as well as their impact on the error budget. The participants also learned how to solve navigation equations by Least Squares estimation and by Kalman filtering.

The participants praised the quality and diversity of the instructors, the rich content of the course, the material, both theory in the format of presentations and the gLAB Tool Suite, and the inspiring contributions from external experts from the Galileo Service Centre, Joint Research Centre (European Commission), European Space Agency and Robukun SME, all of which allowed them to upskill their knowledge on GNSS data processing.

The full agenda and list of speakers is available here.

SpaceSUITE will continue to organise professional upskilling and reskilling trainings in the area of satellite navigation, satellite communications and Earth observation throughout the duration of the project in the next four years, aiming for upskilling and reskilling professionals and students in these areas.

Stay tuned!
